The highly anticipated Taiwan Expo 2019 was finally held at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang Premier, Davao City on the 8th and 9th of November. The event served as a brilliant closing, to this successful event that was widely covered by both the local Filipino and the Taiwanese media.
Organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, the expo is Taiwan’s main platform for companies to explore business opportunities with the ASEAN market. Following a stop in Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and Malaysia, TAITRA chose Davao as the last location for this year’s TAIWAN EXPO. The overwhelmingly positive reception of the expo overseas highlights the positive results of Taiwan’s promotion of its “Taiwan quality” brand, to the Philippines.
TAIWAN EXPO also endeavored to present greater opportunities for the two nations to boost bilateral trade, in various sectors. The Philippines is currently Taiwan’s 11th biggest trade partner. In recent years, tourism has also experienced an impressive growth rate as Taiwan granted visa-free travel to Filipinos. Taiwan Expo serves as the perfect platform for improving cooperation between businesses from the Philippines and Taiwan - as well as the rest of Southeast Asia. As of today, the Taiwan Expo is one of the most important annual trade exchanges between the Philippines and Taiwan - and the turnout for the exhibition far exceeded previous estimates as the event attracted 11,000 visitors over two days.
The highly anticipated Expo showcased products from 100 Taiwanese manufacturers across 100 booths. The display included numerous different themes that showcased both the range and the depth of the products and services coming out of Taiwan - to further improve collaboration. Highlighted areas included: technology, agriculture, fishery, design, health care, and tourism. An Industry seminars line-up took place in parallel to the expo and included: Smart Medical Innovation brightens Up Your Life!; Transform Cities with Taiwanese Technological Solution; Taiwan Bubble Tea Conference; and “Taiwan Agriculture & Fishery Seminar”.
Co-organized by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade and TAITRA, Taiwan Expo 2019 brought together 100 Taiwanese businesses and government departments including the Ministry of Health, the Tourism Bureau, and Kaohsiung City Government, to create this flagship trade fair overseas, with the mission of promoting bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and Taiwan.
